Government mistreating residents of two islands: Council

The council of Hanimadhoo has stated that the government's actions regarding the relocation of Hirimaradhoo residents to Hanimadhoo are causing hardship to the people of both islands. Council President Ali Ibrahim expressed concern over the government's lack of sincerity and progress in the relocation efforts, noting that no budget has been allocated for establishing necessary resources. He highlighted that previous relocation efforts followed a plan, unlike the current situation where no committee has been formed despite an agreement. President Muizzu designated the residents of Hirimaradhoo as Hanimadhoo residents on December 30, 2025.
